Hong Kong Based Magazaine Tags President Duterte as ‘Person of the Year 2016’

The Malacanang Palace has recently announced that a Hong Kong-based magazine named President Rodrigo Duterte as the “Person of the Year” in 2016 for his eagerness to drive for an independent foreign policy.

The news came to light just a few weeks after Forbes Magazine listed Duterte as one of the most powerful in the world.

During a recent briefing, Presidential Spokesperson, Ernesto Abella, quoted businessman, Wilson Flores, citing “Yazhou Zhoukan” as the Time Magazine in the Chinese-speaking society.

In his own words he said and we quoted, "The magazine Yazhou Zhoukan, according to Wilson Flores, the Time Magazine of the Chinese-speaking world has granted the President "Person of the Year" award,"

"A press release says that the choice is based on Duterte’s announcement of an independent foreign policy that consists of his distancing away from the US and forging closer ties with China," he added and we quoted.

Abella claimed that the magazine’s feature praised Duterte’s program of good governance and anti-corruption campaign, which it cited was the reason why the President is popular among the Filipinos.

Malacanang noted that Zazhou Zhoukan is the world’s only Chinese language international affairs magazine distributed in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore and Malaysia.
