During a press release, the chamber claimed that House Bill 6152 will legalize a compressed work week policy to promote business competitiveness, job efficiency and labor productivity.

The compressed work week was said to be an option other than the current five or six day work week.

The proposed law will allow employees to work four days a week. However, they are required to work up to 12 hours a day.

Under the existing labor code, existing employees are required to render 40 to 48 hours of work in a week.

The proposed law further states that the employees who will work under the compressed work week will receive overtime pay if they work more than 48 hours a week.

Moreover, employees are entitled to up to three days off in a week.

Following the said approval from the House of Representatives, the Secretary of Labor and Employment is expected to issue the necessary implementing rules and regulations within 90 days of implementation of the law.

So far, the labor department is already allowing companies to go on a compressed work week schemes according to Baguio City Representative, Mark Go.
